Commenting on Russia winning the bid to supply its ship-based helicopters to Egypt, Russian military expert Viktor Litovkin said that the supply of the Ka-52Ks is part of Russia’s large-scale return to the Egyptian market for military orders.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Dmitry Shugaev, head of\u00a0Russia’s Federal Service for\u00a0Military-Technical Cooperation, said that Moscow had won the tendering process to\u00a0supply Ka-52K Katran helicopters to\u00a0Egypt for\u00a0Mistral helicopter carriers.<\/p>\n

“Russia won that tender. It is important now to\u00a0agree on\u00a0the technical configuration Shugaev told reporters about\u00a0at the 2017 International Paris Air Show at\u00a0Le Bourget.<\/em><\/p>\n

In August 2015, Paris and Moscow formally terminated the 1.2-billion-euro deal on\u00a0the construction and delivery of\u00a0two Mistral-class helicopter carriers, as\u00a0France had refused to\u00a0transfer them to\u00a0Russia over\u00a0its alleged role in\u00a0the Ukrainian conflict.<\/p>\n

\nShortly afterwards, then-French President Francois Hollande confirmed that a deal had been reached with Egypt on the delivery of the two Mistrals.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Ka-52K is a naval modification of the Ka-52 Alligator reconnaissance and combat helicopter, which is designed to destroy armored vehicles, perform fire support operations, and conduct patrol and escort missions.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0Sputnik, Russian military expert Viktor Litovkin said that it is only natural that Russia won the bid to\u00a0deliver the Ka-52K helicopters to\u00a0Egypt because they were originally designed to\u00a0be used on\u00a0the Mistral-class ships.<\/p>\n
